Using phpMyAdmin

Posted 09th August, 2019

In this article, we'll cover the steps needed to access and use your phpMyAdmin. PHPMyAdmin is a management tool for MySQL databases, and lets you manage and manipulate data within your databases on your hosting. For example, WordPress stores posts, pages and user data within a MySQL database.

To access PHPMyAdmin, login into your cPanel account and look for the 'PHPMyAdmin' icon (or use the search bar in the top right hand corner).

Once you have clicked on that, a new page or tab open - this is the PHP MyAdmin interface. On the left hand side, you'll see a list of your databases under the cPanel account. If you do not have any databases, nothing will be listed here.

To begin working with a database, click the database on the left hand side and it will then bring up a list of the tables within the database. For WordPress for example, you'll see the likes of wp_options, wp_posts, wp_users etc. Clicking a table will let you manipulate the data within it, you'll see the columns and rows that make up that table. You can also execute an SQL query, such as an UPDATE, INSERT, or ALTER statement by clicking the 'SQL' tab at the top.
