Migration Process

Posted 11th June, 2020

Stablepoint offers a free migration service with all of our hosting packages. This means we can move your site with minimal or even zero downtime - all that we need from you are your existing hosting log-in details so that we can get access to your files and database(s).

To start this process you just need to raise a ticket with us using the New Migration button under the Support section in your client area and enter your details there.

Migrations can take a couple of days depending on the size and complexity of your website as well as depending what ways to transfer the data are allowed on the incoming server.

  • If you are using a provider that uses cPanel as well, we can move your content (databases,files,e-mails,forwarders,etc.) in one go. cPanel has the function to quickly create a full backup file which we can easily restore from our end. To do this, we will need your existing host's cPanel login details, and it is also important that your host allows you to create your own cPanel account backups (unfortunately some hosts disable this and we have to do it manually which can take longer).

  • If your provider doesn't use cPanel, we will manually copy your site files using FTP (or SSH, if it is available) and download a copy of your database(s). Unfortunately, we cannot yet move email accounts from a provider not using cPanel, but, you can recreate these in your cPanel with us once the migration is complete. We are also working on a Mail Migration Tool which is currently in beta mode (you'll need to create the new mailboxes in cPanel first before using this tool).

Once the migration is completed, you can have a look at the final result using a hosts file. Check out our step-by-step guide how to setup a hosts file

Once you confirm everything is working as it should you're ready to point your nameservers to ourselves:

  • ns1.stablepoint.com

  • ns2.stablepoint.com

  • ns3.stablepoint.com

  • ns4.stablepoint.com

Once the nameservers are updated, your domain name will start pointing to our servers and load your content from here.

If you have any questions regarding the above feel free to contact us for more info.
